Words From the Teacher - April 2024

Dear sangha friends,

It's cherry blossom time in Vancouver, frothy pink clouds line the streets and grace the parks. In Japanese culture they are the quintessential symbol of impermanence. Spring downpours wash the petals into windrows on the sidewalks, reminding us that death comes all too soon to our little human lives. And yet life energy surges up all around us in the springtime, and in our body/mind as we spend more time outdoors and the days lengthen.

Life and death, war and peace, light and dark, nirvana and samsara, mundane and sublime--our practice of meeting each moment with open mind and warm heart is the best way we know to live in such a world. May we continue to nourish that practice in community.

Warm bows,
Myoshin Kate and Shinmon Michael
