From the time of the Buddha, “dana” — the Pali word for “generosity” — has been fundamental to Buddhist practice. Practicing dana opens the heart and reminds us we are all interconnected.

Mountain Rain’s expenses include zendo rental fees, building repairs, utilities, event supplies, the guiding teachers’ monthly stipend, the administrative director’s salary, bookkeeping fees, insurance fees, and retreat subsidies for those on a limited income. The income we collect from retreat and workshop fees only covers a fraction of these costs. Donations are essential to maintaining Mountain Rain’s work and practice.

Mountain Rain is a registered non-profit society with charitable status. A tax receipt will be provided for donations made through the CanadaHelps form below. We encourage monthly recurring donations as they support our financial planning, but donations at other intervals are also much appreciated. How much you choose to give is entirely up to you.

We can receive donations in other ways besides CanadaHelps, but please note that we cannot provide tax receipts for these methods due to the administrative costs this would incur:

  • There is a card donation terminal located in each zendo

  • E-transfers can be sent to treasurer@mountainrainzen.org

  • Cheques may be made out to Mountain Rain Zen Community and mailed to 2016 Wall St. Vancouver, BC, V5L 1B1

You are always welcome to practice with Mountain Rain regardless of whether you contribute financially. Talk to the teachers or a practice leader about how you might contribute through volunteer time or gifts in kind.

If you are interested in donating not to the organization, but directly to the teachers, learn more on the teachers donations page.

If you are interested in becoming a member, learn more on our membership page.
