Might a bit of Buddhist wisdom and practice help you and friends to better face today’s political, social and ecological calamities?
In 2015, One Earth Sangha (concerned Buddhist leaders) created EcoSattva Training, to help interested people to better engage the world by connecting deeply with the earth and its creatures. In September, a zoom version of the course is being offered through Mountain Rain Zen, a Vancouver BC, Buddhist community.
The course consists of eight, 1.5 hr Zoom sessions every second week, starting Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 7:30-9:00 pm. The 7th session is on December 15 and the final (8th) on January 19, 2021.
Preparation consists of viewing videos developed by One Earth teachers (1-2 hrs for each session) and establishing an outdoor “sit spot” to regularly contemplate earth and self. Though an individual mode is possible, One Earth recommends taking the course with a group. Fred Bass, who attends Mountain Rain, will facilitate the course. Once registered, persons will also get access to monthly, live, on-line broadcasts by One Earth Teachers and longterm access to the videos and resources of the website.
To register in a group of 8-12, One Earth charges $108 US ($145-150 Canadian) or, individually: $150 US ($200-210 Canadian). Scholarships are available to help people find the course more affordable. The One Earth website gives an extensive review of the course and the sessions. But full access to the course materials does not begin until a person registers (pays) for the course.
