Dogen Zenji brought Soto Zen practice from China to Japan in the thirteenth century. His writings have come to be known world-wide for their poetic and paradoxical language, and penetrating depth.
In Japanese a gathering to study Dogen's Shobogenzo is called a Genzo-e, Our annual Dogen weekend retreat has grown into a five-week intensive. Studying Dogen together we can widen and deepen our perspectives on practice.

Lunch: Please bring your own lunch and a mug for tea, which will be provided.
Note: Regular Sunday morning practice will be an extension of the closing retreat. Though you do not have to register, additional donations and teacher dana are much appreciated. Sunday afternoon there will be a jukai ceremony at the Vancouver Buddhist Temple.
Dana: Dana is the word for generosity in the ancient language of Pali. Retreat fees do not go to the teachers. Participants may offer dana according to their circumstances, by cash at the retreat, or online by e-transfer or Paypal.
