Hungry Ghosts Ceremony (Sejiki)

  • Mountain Rain Zendo 2016 Wall Street Vancouver, BC, V5L 1J5 Canada (map)

The word sejiki means feeding the hungry ghosts, those beings whose insatiable desires keep them in a realm of torment, unable to practice the Buddha Way. In this ceremony we will make food offerings, symbolizing the nourishment of the Dharma, to the hungry ghost realm within ourselves and in the world. Costumes and masks are welcome, so that the hungry ghosts will not be too intimidated to join us.

To zazen periods, dharma talk by Shinmon Michael, followed by the ceremony, with tea and snacks to follow. Everyone welcome!

Come early and help carve a jack-o-lantern and decorate a Halloween altar for the hungry ghosts. You are invited to contribute decorations and snacks. We will also have a Food Bank basket for contributions to support those in our own community who cannot afford good food.
