Please join Mountain Rain Zen community for our annual 27-hour Rohatsu retreat. Let’s sit together through the night with determination, then celebrate the Buddha’s enlightenment with all beings!
This retreat is structured so that you can attend as much as you are able. We hope that a core of participants will sit the whole retreat and that as many as possible can join us for some part. Meals will be served in traditional oryoki (monk's three bowls) style. Oryoki sets will be available for those who do not have their own and instructions for those who have not done this formal Zen meal practice before.
About Yaza (night sitting) : Please join us for yaza this year and sit in the deep stillness of night, 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Yaza is informal, without timed periods. Yaza hosts will be there in shifts for the entire night, but participants can come for any length of time.
Retreat fees will be collected at the retreat. Suggested amount for full retreat: $60, less for part-time or limited income participants. In addition there will a dana (donation) box for the teachers.
Sign-up sheets are available in the zendo or please sign up on the form below and check which blocks of sitting and meals you will attend. We ask that part-time participants sign-up for specific blocks of zazen, with the exception of yaza, which is open.
Note: Everyone is welcome to attend the Rohatsu retreat Dec. 9-10 on a part-time drop-in basis. Please arrive 15 min. before the block of sitting time you will attend (see schedule below). Meals are only available for those who have pre-registered. Sunday morning arrivals should come in time for a 9:00 start, or during kinhin at 9:30 or 10:10.
