Dogen Zenji’s “Instructions to the Zen Cook” (Tenzo Kyokun) gives detailed instructions for preparing food with care and attention, nourishing others with the spirit of a bodhisattva. These teachings about cooking provide a template for a way of living and working in our daily lives. After our recent ZenYU retreat, “Sitting, Cooking, Eating” we realized there is much more to be gleaned from this wonderful text. With the help of Uchiyama Roshi’s commentary, we will read and discuss it together over the next six weeks. Everyone is welcome!
