Sunday Series: Harmony of Difference & Equality

In the light there is darkness,
but don’t take it as darkness;
In the dark there is light,
but don’t see it as light.
Light and dark oppose one another
like the front and back foot in walking.
— Shitou, 8th century CE

The eighth century poem “Harmony of Difference and Equality”, by the Chinese Zen Master Shitou, is one of the most essential Zen texts, chanted regularly in Soto Zen temples around the world. It draws on Taoist roots to present a poetic vision of non-duality.

Mountain Rain sangha leaders, Jikai Vicki Turay, Dai-i Flo Rublee and Kakuko Kaye Simard will each give a dharma talk on a section of the text and offer insight into this profound teaching.

Part of our regular Sunday morning practice schedule. Everyone welcome!
