Collective Liberation: A Sitting Group for Racialized Folks

Every second and fourth Thursday of the month
In person at the Wall Street Zendo
7:30pm - 9:00pm
Doors open at 7:00pm

Upcoming dates: February 12 and 26; March 12 and 26; April 9 and 23; May 14 and 28.

Collective Liberation is an informal practice group for *racialized folks, created to foster mutual support and understanding for those who identify as racialized and are interested in learning about meditation or Buddhism.

The group is facilitated by peers who have experience in various dharma traditions including Soto Zen and the Insight meditation tradition. Our intention is to provide safety and belonging to meditate and explore contemplative practices. We strive to uphold an inclusive space that reflects intersectional experiences.

All experience levels and ages are welcome. If you are new to meditation or the group itself, we suggest you join us at 7:00pm for a brief introduction. For more information Contact

Free to join, donations are welcome.

Our practice sessions typically consist of:

o   Sitting meditation

o   Walking and/or stretching meditation

o   A dharma reflection from a selected reading

o   A sharing circle with tea and snacks

o   Community announcements

* In recognizing that “race” is a social construct, we are using the term “racialized person” or racialized group, instead of what may be considered less accurate terms such as “racial minority”, “visible minority”, “person of colour” or “non-White”. We are also mindful that, when it comes to “race” and the terms one uses to self-identify, using a broad term to describe a group is equally as challenging and there is no one-size-fits-all language.
